Evelina’s scream pierced the air of the entire venue, as if she were on her deathbed.
Lemira, with a huff, whipped out a silicone bra insert and flung it right at Evelina’s face. “I’m not a man. Stop shoving your fake boobs in my face, or next time, I’ll pop them for real!”
Lemira knew Evelina all too well.
In her past life, Evelina had gone under the knife to please Dorian, emerging as a busty, innocent–looking beauty.
Men seemed to have a thing for that, and Dorian was utterly enchanted.
Evelina, both ashamed and furious, retorted, “Lemira, you’re one to talk about fake boobs. You’re just jealous of me!”
“What on Earth about you could possibly make me jealous?” Lemira scoffed, giving Evelina a once–over with a mocking glare. “Other than stealing my Ms. Langston title to live this glamorous life, what do you have? Without the Langston family’s protection, you’re just a driver’s daughter. What are you then?”
The mention of her father being a driver was what Evelina hated the most.
She glared at Lemira, venom in her eyes. “You’re nothing but born lucky. And now, I’ve taken even that from you. Just you wait, I’ll live a life ten, no, a hundred times better than yours. You and your broke boyfriend can rot at the bottom of society.”
Evelina huffed. One day, she vowed, Lemira would pay dearly for her words!
Once she and her father drained the Langston family of their wealth, Lemira would be nothing.
Then, she’d see how Lemira would try to act like a lady of high society!
“Who’s calling who poor now?”
Matthew sauntered in, having heard someone was picking on Lemira. He was curious to see who had the gall. Evelina’s face went through a spectrum of emotions upon seeing Matthew. In a coquettish voice, she said, “Mr. Everhart, I was just trying to persuade Lemmy not to fight with her family. And then, she attacked me.”
Evelina even covered her chest, feigning modesty.
Matthew cursed, “What, are you selling yourself, dressing like that?”
Evelina’s face flushed with anger. “Mr. Everhart, that’s not it at all.”
She hadn’t expected Matthew to be immune to her charms. How infuriating.
When Evelina saw Asher returning, she immediately turned on the waterworks. “Lemmy, I was just trying to talk to you. If you didn’t want to listen, you could’ve just said no. Why did you have to undress me to humiliate me?” “Eve, what happened?”
Asher hurried over, draping his jacket over Evelina and glaring at Lemira. “Lemira, you’ve gone too far. What has Eve ever done to you?”
Lemira grabbed a glass of water from the table and doused them both.
Evelina quickly hid behind Asher, who ended up soaked.
“Lemira, have you lost your mind?”
Lemira looked at them coldly. “Feeling a bit clearer now?”

Matthew dragged over a water cooler, placing it next to Lemira. “Had enough? There’s more where that came from.”
The jug was ready.
Seeing Matthew so protective of Lemira, Evelina felt a pang of discomfort. “Mr. Everhart, I get you want to stand by Lemmy, but…”
“But what? You Langstons owe Lemira a lot. And you, playing the damsel in distress? A driver’s daughter living the high life because of whose generosity, huh? Got no shame?”
Silenced, Evelina could only hang her head and play the victim.
Asher addressed Matthew, “Mr. Everhart, this is a Langston family matter. You’re stepping a bit out of bounds, don’t you think?”
