“Right, I’ll head up in a bit. Sweetheart, how did you get hurt? It doesn’t look like a fall; more like someone had a go at you?”
Mrs. Amanda could tell at a glance that the injuries on Lemira weren’t from a simple tumble. They were the kind you get from someone laying hands on you.
Lemira’s expression turned a bit awkward: “It’s nothing.”
“Honey, did someone at home do this to you? You can tell me. You just helped me out big time, and I swear I’ll sort this out for you.”
Mrs. Amanda, seeing Lemira’s expression, jumped straight to the conclusion of domestic abuse.
“Listen here, young lady, you can’t let men walk all over you. If he raises his hand, you have to stand up for yourself, got it?”
Lemira couldn’t help but let out a mix of a laugh and a sigh: “It’s not domestic abuse, but it’s not far off. My
brother is the one who did this.”
“That brother of yours is a real piece of work. If I had a daughter and my son dared to lay a finger on her, I’d break his legs myself. How could he lay hands on his sister?”
Mrs. Amanda was fuming.
She looked at Lemira: “Who is your brother? I’ll hire the best lawyer in town for you, make him pay for what he
did.”
“It’s okay, I can handle it. But thank you, Mrs. Beautiful.”
Hearing the words ‘Mrs. Beautiful‘, Mrs. Amanda couldn’t help but touch her face with a hint of pride: “Have I really been looking after myself that well? I’m old enough to be your mom.”
“You look very young.”
Mrs. Amanda’s mood improved significantly: “Sweetheart, could you do me a favor? Could you take me up to the VIP hospital wing and say I’m a family member?”
“Sure.”
Mrs. Amanda was taken aback: “You’re not going to ask why?”
“No need.”
Lemira stood up: “Let’s go, I was heading back to my room anyway.”
Mrs. Amanda linked her arm with Lemira’s: “Then let’s be on our way.”
This should keep them from drawing too much attention.
The two of them took the elevator up. The bodyguards stationed nearby exchanged glances but pretended not to see anything.
Maybe Mrs. Amanda is here to visit her future daughter–in–law.
They stepped out of the elevator, and Mrs. Amanda flashed a smile, relieved at her cleverness.
Lemira saw a familiar figure in the corridor and called out, “Orion.”
The man turned around, and upon seeing Lemira and his stepmother arm in arm, his usually stoic expression
cracked,
Was he seeing things?
Lemira noticed Orion’s bewildered look.

What’s going on?
Following Orion’s gaze, Lemira turned to the elegant lady beside her.
Mrs. Amanda’s eyes widened, and she bolted as if she’d seen a ghost.
Busted.
Wasn’t Orion supposed to be tied up in an international conference?
Mrs. Amanda, heels and all, dashed down the stairs.
Orion approached Lemira, hesitating: “You’re okay, right? What did she say?”
“She just asked for directions.”
But Lemira sensed Orion’s anxiety: “What’s wrong? Do you know her?”
“The elegant lady?”
Orion scrutinized Lemira’s face, his voice filled with unease: “That’s it?”
“Yeah, just directions. She looked like a well–off lady, very well–maintained.”
Lemira looked up at Orion: “Do you know her?”
Orion was at a loss for words.
Then, their phones rang simultaneously.
Lemira knew it must be the alarm from the app monitoring Evelina, indicating she had been in contact with their father.
