Valencia’s POV
The uproar was immediate.

Gasps and hurried whispers rippled through the crowd, panic spreading like wildfire as people turned toward the entrance of the mansion. The air grew thick with tension, and for a split second, everything seemed to freeze.
Then, Roman was the first to react.
Without hesitation, he pushed back his chair and strode toward the mansion, his large frame moving with an urgency that sent a ripple of unease through the surrounding Alphas and pack members.
I remained seated, but my heart pounded. Jason had collapsed? My fingers curled into the fabric of my dress as my scrambled for answers.
Was this part of Dante’s plan?
My gaze flickered across the room, scanning for him. He still wasn’t back.
If this was part of his plan, then he knew this would happen.
But where was he?
I forced myself to breathe steadily, my thoughts racing back to my earlier conversation with Aiden.
‘Out‘
That was what he had said about Jason.
mind
I had assumed it meant Jason was being kept in check–hidden or restrained in some way–but not dead. That was what Dante had told me. That Jason wasn’t dead.
Yet, as I watched Roman disappear through the mansion doors, followed closely by Jaxon and Drogo, dread coiled in my stomach. My brothers followed right after them, their expressions unreadable. The urgency in their movements told me that this wasn’t something minor.
I knew Jason’s death would be beneficial if Aiden was truly planning on taking over the pack. Or at least there was no benefit of him staying alive.
But I was afraid of people blaming Dante, or finding out that he was somehow involved in this.
Was it fucked up? Maybe. But right now I didn’t care.
I needed to find Dante.
Pushing my chair back, I stood, glancing briefly at Seven. He was still unconscious, his breathing slow but steady. The doctor had assured me he would be fine, but leaving him alone–even for a moment–felt wrong.
My eyes darted toward the stationed Beta guards around the hall scanning their faces until I found one that looked familiar.
Klaus, I think?

I walked quickly toward him, my pulse hammering. He was one of the guards meant to keep the guests in check, but I recognized him from before. I had seen him with Marcelene several times back when she was working out or practising in the fields.
If he had been close to her, then surely, he wouldn’t be hostile toward me. Right?
As I approached, he turned his head slightly, his sharp blue eyes flicking toward me before straightening his posture.
“Klaus, right?” I asked, keeping my voice even.
His gaze flickered with recognition, but his response was careful. “Yes?”
I hesitated. There was something off about the way he looked at me–like he had expected something else.
But I didn’t have time to dwell on it.
“Can you do me a favor and keep an eye on him?” I gestured toward Seven. “I know it’s unnecessary, but just to be safe?” His brows lifted in slight surprise, as if my request wasn’t what he had been expecting.
But after a beat, he nodded. “Of course.”
“Thank you,” I murmured before quickly turning on my heel.
It didn’t take long to find Dante.
The Wolfe Alphas and Lethia had turned right, towards the main hall and I could tell Dante wasn’t anywhere over there.
I followed our connection instead.
As I stepped into one of the dimly lit corridors leading toward the side halls, I spotted him emerging from one of the
rooms.
His sharp gaze found me instantly, his brows furrowing as we met in the middle of the hallway.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice calm, but there was a flicker of something in his expression–something that told me he already knew.
I swallowed hard, searching his face. “Jason collapsed.”
Dante didn’t react the way I had expected.
He simply nodded.
As if this had been inevitable.
That put me at ease. It meant things were under control on our end.
We needed to return to the hall.
When we arrived, it was clear that the energy in the room had shifted.
Most of the key figures were gone–Roman, Drogo, Jaxon, and my brothers had left in a hurry. The only ones who remained were the Armani family, with Sirius and Sebastian still seated.

But the atmosphere had changed.
Sebastian was on the slightly elevated stage, his expression carefully composed as he addressed the crowd.

“I apologize for the unfortunate disruptions that have occurred tonight,” he said smoothly. “Rest assured, appropriate actions will be taken to amend the situation. However, we must bring this gathering to a close. I kindly ask that all guests begin making their departures.”
A formal dismissal.
The engagement ceremony was officially over.
Slowly, the guests began to filter out, murmuring amongst themselves.
Dante exhaled quietly beside me and started walking.
I followed, glancing toward Alpha Selene, who was seated a few tables away.
Just as I did, a maid leaned in to whisper something in her ear.
Whatever was said made her expression harden.
A flicker of anger passed through her sharp green eyes, and then, without hesitation, she stood abruptly.
But instead of heading toward the exit, she stormed inside–her younger brother Nico trailing after her.
I hesitated, turning toward Dante.
“Should we wait?” I asked quietly.
But he shook his head.
“Grab Castor,” he murmured. “Our work here is done.”
I nodded but turned my gaze toward Seven, still lying motionless.
“What about him?” I asked.
Dante glanced at the unconscious boy before replying, “Don’t worry. I’ll arrange for a ride and have him settled.” Satisfied with that answer, I quickly made my way upstairs.
The halls were eerily quiet upstairs now. As I reached my room, retrieved my leather tote, where Castor’s egg lay
Before leaving, I took one last look around the space.
There was a strange sense of finality in the air, as if I wouldn’t be returning to this place for a very long time.
And somehow… that didn’t bother me.
As I locked the door and slipped the key into my pocket, a loud shout echoed through the halls.
I stopped in my tracks.

For a moment, I considered moving closer, to hear what was happening, but a guard suddenly stepped into view, blocking my line of sight.
“You are requested to leave,” he said firmly.
I swallowed back my curiosity.
Fine.
But as I turned to leave, I caught sight of Jaxon standing in the distance.
His gaze locked onto mine, his expression dark and angry.
Then, just as quickly, he turned and disappeared into the hallway where Selene and the others had gathered.
A cold unease settled in
I hurried back to Dante.

stomach.
As we stepped outside, the cool night air hit me, washing away some of the tension that had built up inside.
I took in a deep breath, my eyes immediately searching for him.
And there he was.
Dante stood under the glow of the full moon, his coat slung over one shoulder, his posture relaxed yet commanding. His gaze met mine the moment I stepped forward,
Klaus was nearby, carefully setting Seven into the back of the limousine.
As he stepped away, his eyes met mine, and I expected him to leave without a word.
But instead, he hesitated.
Then, in a quiet voice, he asked, “Is Marcy okay?”
I blinked, caught off guard.
“Yeah,” I answered, surprised. “She’s doing well. Have you not talked to her?” I knew she was keeping in touch with a lot of the Wolfe pack soldiers that she used to train with.
Klaus let out a wry chuckle, shaking his head. “How could I have the face to? Can you… say sorry to her for me?”
I frowned. “For what?”
His gaze darkened with regret.
“For breaking up with her when she needed me the most.”
The words settled heavily between us.
I barely processed my own response as I muttered. Uh, okay,

Klaus gave me a small nod before turning to leave.
But the moment he walked away, Klaus’s words registered.
When I turned to him, I knew he nearly laughed at the sheer bewilderment on my face as I spoke.
“Marcy had a boyfriend?!”
