Before Allen could finish, Suzy hung up on him.
Staring at the disconnected call, Allen muttered under his breath, “So old–fashioned. What’s wrong with one woman and two men? Why can’t it work?”
When Allen returned to the room, he froze. The bed was empty–Elliot was gone.
After searching the entire hospital with no sign of him, Allen panicked. “This is bad. If the boss finds out, she’s definitely going to kill me!”
He quickly rallied the hospital staff. “All of you, start looking! Search every corner of this hospital. Turn it upside down if you have to but find Elliot!”
Despite mobilizing nearly everyone, there was still no trace of him. It was as if he had vanished into thin air.
Nervously, Allen had no choice but to call Suzy.
“You’re not going to start spouting nonsense again, are you?” Suzy asked, already bracing for another ridiculous argument about two men and one woman.
She couldn’t fathom where he’d even gotten such an absurd idea. Did she come across as that desperate?
“No, boss, it’s not that,” Allen said, his voice uncharacteristically serious.
“What I’m about to tell you might be hard to accept, but I need you to stay calm…”
Hearing his tone, Suzy’s expression hardened. “Did something happen to Elliot?”
“Yes,” Allen admitted reluctantly.
“After I hung up with you and went back to the room, he was gone. He should’ve still been asleep, but he wasn’t there. I searched the entire hospital, but I couldn’t find him anywhere.”
“Allen, have I not made it clear enough? You were not to let him out of your sight!” Suzy’s voice was sharp, her frustration impossible to hide.
“I know! I thought he was asleep, so I figured it’d be fine to step away for a quick call. I never expected him to disappear in just a few minutes.” Allen’s tone was heavy with regret.
“Where did you go to make the call?”
