Chapter 108
Chapter 108
Valencia’s POV:
I felt a small smile creep onto my lips before I could stop it. “Did you miss me that much?” I teased, tilting my head slightly.
His lips twitched into a lopsided grin, and he gave a mock sigh, is tone dripping with sarcasm. “Yeah, how could I not miss my utterly annoying little sister?”
The teasing familiarity in his voice caught me off guard. It was strange–this casual banter, this sudden ease between us. I wasn’t sure if it was because of the events that had transpired recently or something else entirely, but for the first time, I felt like he was… really seeing me.
And that made me relax, my hesitance about going back to the Wolfe pack easing slightly.
Aiden reached out to take the large leather tote in my hand, but instinctively, I stepped back. The movement was automatic, and realization dawned on him quickly. His eyes flickered to the bag, and he didn’t ask questions. He knew. Castor was inside.
Without a word, he turned his attention to Dante, offering a firm nod. The two men exchanged brief pleasantries, their words clipped but respectful, and soon we were sliding into the limousine. The partition separating us from the driver silently slid up, enclosing us in a cocoon of privacy.
I folded my arms across my chest, shifting in my seat to face them. “Alright,” I said, my voice steady but expectant. What are you guys hiding?”
Dante’s lips curled slightly, and Aiden looked out the window with a lazy smirk, as if they had been expecting this question all along.
Neither of them answered.
I narrowed my eyes, tapping my fingers against my arm impatiently. “Seriously?” I huffed. “You’re just going to sit there and act all mysterious?”
Aiden’s eyes met mine through the reflection in the tinted glass. Vi, you overthink everything,” he said, his tone light, but there was a flicker of something guarded in his expression.
I felt a pang of irritation settle in my chest. They were treating me like a child.
Before I could press further, the limousine slowed, and I turned to see the Wolfe pack house come into view. My lips parted slightly as my gaze swept over the extravagance that awaited us.
Silver sparkles adorned the towering pillars at the entrance, cascading like a waterfall of diamonds. The entire front of the mansion was lit in soft, glistening hues that made it look like something straight out of a fairytale. Strings of delicate crystal lights hung in mesmerizing patterns, reflecting a myriad of colors that shimmered under the twilight sky.
I glanced down at my own outfit–an elegant black gown with gold embroidery curling along the bodice and sleeves. Dante, beside me, wore a matching black suit with gold detailing along the cuffs and lapels.
As we stepped inside, the opulence continued. The interior seemed to have changed. The grand chandelier overhead sparkled with thousands of crystals, and the polished marble floors reflected the light like a mirror. The scent of fresh roses mixed with something richer–champagne and expensive perfume.
The first person I spotted was Anastasia.

To my utter confusion, she smiled warmly and moved toward me, her delicate, gloved hands extending for an embrace. I stiffened but allowed it, caught off guard by her uncharacteristically sweet demeanor.
“You look lovely,” she said softly, pulling away.
I blinked. Was this the same Anastasia who used to treat me like speck of dirt beneath her shoes? The same one who had caused me to go into a panic attack in the middle of a crowd?
Before I could make sense of it, she turned to Aiden, her doc–like eyes wide with concern.
“You’ve been out all day,” she murmured, touching his arm light. “Did you have lunch?”
Ah. So that’s what this was about. I nearly rolled my eyes. Of course, she wouldn’t want to look bad in front of Aiden.
But what surprised me even more was his reaction. Instead of his expected smile, he simply gave her a curt nod and brushed past her.
I raised an eyebrow, my curiosity piqued.
This was definitely not his usual demeanor towards her.
Aiden led us deeper into the main hall, where guests were already mingling. The chatter of familiar voices filled the space, and I turned to him. “I’ll join you soon,” I said, already taking a step away.
Before I could make it far, Dominico captured my wrist, bending down slightly to whisper, “Where are you going?” he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.
I frowned as I felt the sensation of uncomfort through our bond. At least it felt uncomfortable, I couldn’t quite grasp this emotion flowing into me. “To my room,” I replied carefully. “I need to store my bag, I can’t really carry this around.” I motioned towards the bag in my hand, it was too big and it drew too much attention.
I didn’t want other people accidently snooping inside.
Dominico didn’t move, his hold tightening. His sharp gaze scanned me, and for a moment, I thought he might refuse. Which only confused me even more. Was he worried?
I mean, I couldn’t blame him after what I told him about Jaxon. But I was sure all the people were gathered in the hall. No one would be near my bedroom at this time, except for maybe the maids.
An approaching Alpha called his name, and just as he turned his attention away, his grip loosened around my wrist.
“Are you wearing your anklets?” he asked suddenly, his voice low!
I answered, confused. “Yes, of course.” It was a gift from him, and I didn’t really want to take it off, but now that he asked about it in such a way, I couldn’t help but become suspicious.
Dante’s voice was barely a whisper in my ear. “Keep the connection open.”
Only then did Dominico release me, nodding before turning back to the guests. I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding and hurried upstairs.
Once inside my old room, I shut the door behind me and exhaled deeply. Everything was just as I had left it, the familiar scent lingering in the air–wood and a faint trace of the old books I used to keep stacked on my bedside table.
To be honest, storing the Castor hadn’t been the only reason I had come here.

I moved toward my dresser, searching for the ring Dominico ha given me. The engagement ring. I pulled open the drawer, my brows furrowing when I realized the velvet box was missing.
Did someone take it?
That was highly possible since someone would have searched the room when I had run away.
I bit my lips, uneasiness washing over me. I knew no one would come inside now if I locked and left. But the fact that someone previously did, and also took such a precious thing with them, made me anxious to leave Castor here alone.
I shook my head, knowing I had no other good option. Opening the cupboard and placing the bag inside, I covered it with my folded clothes then locked the cupboard.
My eyes scanned the room, landing on the crystal butterfly clip sitting on my vanity. I picked it up, the cool weight of it bringing back not so distant memories.
This clip had been gifted along with the red dress I wore when I first met Dante. It had been gifted to me on my sixteenth birthday.
But now that I think about it.
Wasn’t this gifted by the Lombardi pack? I remembered it clearly because I didn’t usually receive many presents on my birthday’s. It was usually just one or two given by the pack as a whole and it had always been modest gifts, never as extravagant and expensive looking as that.
My heart jumped as I envisioned Dante sending me the gift.
I knew it was only a fantasy, this was probably selected by a butler or maid. Since things between the pack had been rather peaceful four years ago.
Shaking off the tingling feeling, I clipped it into my hair, adjusting the side. Just as I turned to leave, the door swung open with a sharp creak.
Lethia stood there, her face twisted in anger.
Before I could react, she grabbed my elbow and pulled me back further inside, shutting the door with a quiet click.
“What are you doing here?” she hissed, her eyes blazing with fury “How dare you come back?”
